As part of Tell Every Amazing Lady®’s “Patient Navigation: A Model to Ensure Equitable Cancer Care” two-year grant funded by Direct Relief Fund, a comprehensive set of educational materials was developed to strengthen community-based cancer education and expand access to reliable health information.
The materials were completed in collaboration with the Meyer Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach and Engagement and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Together, the project teams created two educational brochures, two expert interview videos, and two full workshop presentation recordings produced in both English and Spanish. These resources were designed to help participants better understand emerging and important topics in breast and gynecologic cancer education, including cascade genetic testing and artificial intelligence in mammography screening.
To improve accessibility and reach, the brochures were translated into five commonly represented patient languages: Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Haitian Creole. In addition, end-to-end recordings of a breast and gynecologic cancer education workshop were produced in both English and Spanish. These recordings will support future peer health educator training and allow workshop content to reach individuals who are unable to attend live sessions.
Outreach materials were also developed to support community engagement and participant follow-up. Branded folders, pens, and educational labels were created for take-home packets that included brochures and other cancer education resources. These packets allowed participants to save the information for themselves or share it with family members, friends, and community networks. Collectively, these materials hope to expand the sustainability and long-term reach of cancer education across New York City communities.
